Guidelines to remember for Interlibrary Loan Use:

• While most items can be obtained through interlibrary loan, there are times when we are unable to borrow an item or get a copy of an item.  Unique materials and materials held only in libraries outside the United States can be difficult to get. '
• When you receive an email that your loan has arrived, please make sure you come to pick up the item you requested.
• If you are located a distance away from the EMU Harrisonburg campus, please indicate in the notes field where you are located.
• Please return ILL books in a timely manner.  There is a $5.00 a day fee for overdue books.
• Only order material you have time to use for research and read.  Because the software is relatively easy to use, it is possible to order too many items and then not have time to read all the material.
• At this time e-books are not available to borrow from other institutions.

EMU Hartzler Library Policy for Interlibrary Loan

The purpose of interlibrary loan (ILL) is to support and encourage the research and learning of current students, staff and faculty (including emeriti).  The Hartzler library cannot own all the material necessary to conduct thorough research. Therefore we provide ILL services which facilitate the lending and borrowing of items from other institutions.

ILL services are usually provided at no cost to students, staff and faculty (including emeriti).  In situations where there are additional costs, ILL staff will contact the patron before submitting a request.

ILL staff are unable to fulfill requests for items the Hartzler library owns.

A fine of $5.00 a day will occur if the borrowed material is not back by the due date.  Extra care should be given to all borrowed items with the expectation that materials would be returned in the same condition they were received.
