Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Resources: Inclusive Pedagogy

Inclusive Pedagogy at EMU

What is inclusive pedagogy at EMU?

Inclusive pedagogy aims to actively engage all learners by adapting instruction to meet diverse needs. Inclusive pedagogy

  • is grounded in constructivist & sociocultural learning theories

  • draws on metacognition and a growth mindset to empower students to take ownership of their mistakes and growth

  • centers respectful classroom climate before pedagogical tool decisions so that all students feel safe, supported, and motivated to reach their full potential

  • applies universal design (UDL) to make learning accessible and relevant

The goal of inclusive pedagogy is to provide equitable access, remove barriers, and enable all students to become self-determined, lifelong learners.
