Reserves FAQs

How can I put items on reserve so all my students have access to them?

  • Do you have required materials on your syllabus you want all students to read or view? The library can help facilitate circulation of these items by placing them on reserve behind the main desk. Please bring items you wish to place on reserve to the main desk and fill out the orange Hartzler Library Reserves slip.

What types of materials can I put on reserve?

  • The library can handle most materials including books, DVDs and journal articles.  We can work with materials owned by the library as well as your own personal items.  Personal items will be returned to you at the end of the semester.   If placing photocopies of materials on reserve, please put each copy in its own folder and label it.

How will students get access to these materials?

  • Library reserves are kept behind the main desk and students must request them from the worker.  Items check out for four hours and may be checked out overnight four hours before we close.  Materials are organized by title so please provide that information in your syllabus.

Materials in Moodle

Faculty may use Moodle to provide access to readings.

When using journal articles owned electronically by EMU, it is preferable to link to that item instead of supplying a PDF copy.

Most databases provide a stable URL for linking purposes.

Contact Jennifer Ulrich if you have questions about linking to articles in Moodle.

Content placed in Moodle must comply with Copyright Law.
